Sheila
Lobel has been involved in a variety of aspects of dog training for many years.
She enjoys an established private training practice. Sheila has been an
accredited trainer with a nationally known pet store where she has worked with
well over fifteen hundred dogs and their caring human families. In addition, she
is accredited by the American Kennel Club as a Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
evaluator. She prides herself on staying up to date with the latest methods of
dog handling and psychology by continuing to take professional education courses
with the focus on training, motivation, behavior modification and personal skill
improvement. She has had the opportunity of working with some of the most
respected dog trainers and canine behavioral counselors in the country. She
assisted teaching puppy, basic and advanced obedience classes for 17 months at
St. Hubert’s Dog Training School in Madison, NJ. Sheila is committed to training
with “positive reinforcement methods” and provides patient and compassionate
guidance to dog owners so that they will enjoy the companionship of pets that
are well mannered. She is an active member of APDT (Association of Pet Dog
Trainers), and has achieved Level I Pet Dog Trainer Certification (CPDT) through
this national organization. She attends their educational conferences and is
listed on their web site.
Sheila
is now the proud owner of three Italian Spinoni (having recently rescued a 9 ½
year old, Jake) and has taken Baci and Spenser from Puppy through Super Advanced
classes. Spenser is 6 years old and has already qualified for the “Canine Good
Citizenship” certification, and Baci (who is 4 years old) will be taking his CGC
test. Both dogs are continuing their education with other courses such as
“Clicker Training” and “Rally-O” as well as outdoor obedience. She hopes to
involve them in therapy work in the future. She has handled both dogs in
conformation where Spenser has reached Champion status in ARBA (the American
Rare Breed Association) and Baci will be shown in the near future in AKC events.
She is a member of the Spinone Club of America and is one of the contact people
for Spinone rescue. Sheila is an active member of NAVHDA (North American
Versatile Hunting Dog Association), and handles both dogs in their field trial
work which involves pointing, and land and water retrieval. She also works with
shelter dogs as a “Canine Coach” with the goal of socializing them and
developing their good manners so that they will become good adoption candidates.
Sheila holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and is a Master’s Degree candidate in Fine Arts (as one of her hobbies is sculpting in stone and steel.) She is the former co-owner and teacher of a karate school and holds a second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. An avid sports and outdoors person, she is also a member of the Master Gardeners of Somerset/Hunterdon Counties, where she answers “Helpline” questions from county residents in addition to participating in other volunteer activities, and has recently become a Warren County, NJ resident.
